The key features are the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake-force distribution (EBD). This automatically varies the amount of force that is being applied to the vehicles brakes at any one time. this works particularly well in conjunction with the Electronic stability program on the car (ESP) which helps to maintain the car in a straight driving line when those braking emergencies happen The Fiesta also has home safe headlights which can be activated at night when leaving the car, enabling you can see the area in front of the car to make sure you get to your home safely.
Ford Announces SYNC Launch
Ford has announced that its British customers will be among the first to benefit from the launch of SYNC technology. SYNC will make its debut in Europe on the Ford Focus 2012 and will bring the brand’s award-winning voice-control and connectivity technology to a whole new audience.
President and CEO of Ford, Alan Mullaly said in a statement, “We are pleased to announce that SYNC will soon be available to customers around the world. It is a smarter, safer and simpler way to connect drivers with in-car technologies and their digital lives.”
SYNC, along with the MyFord Touch interface is an exciting and rich experience that uses voice control and steering wheel controls or a centre stack touch screen to make vehicle functions, information and settings available to the driver. It is one of the most advanced voice-control and connect technologies to appear on the market and Ford is estimating that almost 2 million vehicles across Europe will feature the system by 2015.
SYNC offers drivers a smarter and safer way to stay in touch with the outside world while on the move. It is powered by the Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive platform and is being developed to understand multiple languages and accents in order to cater the European market. The system will be able to voice-operate functions such as climate control, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
Software upgrades will also be available from Ford dealerships to ensure the SYNC technology stays up to date with all the latest advancements. Jason Johnson, SYNC Product Development Engineer said,
"We knew from the beginning that our connectivity solution would have to keep pace with the rapid advancement of consumer electronics and be flexible and upgradeable in order to remain useful to customers for as long as they own their vehicles."
Electric Focus Beats the Cold
Ford showcased its electric Focus at the Canadian Auto Show in Toronto last month, making another step forward in EV and hybrid technology. The Focus Electric uses a battery that provides additional power and longer range by using an “advanced active liquidheating system”. This regulates the battery temperature, heating or cooling water which in turn warms or cools the battery and prevents extreme weather conditions from slowing the vehicle down.
The lithiumion batteries used in electric and hybrid cars give optimum performance under moderate temperatures. By keeping the Focus Electric’s battery at a constant temperature, both charging and driving will be more efficient, especially in cold climates.
Sherif Marakby, Ford’s director of Electric Programs and Engineering said, “A liquid-heated battery can accept a charge faster from the regenerative braking that recaptures kinetic energy and sends it back to the battery, essentially providing longer range for the customer in real world cold weather conditions. Additionally, since acceleration in an electric vehicle comes from the power available in the battery, the customer will have more power available if the battery is warmer."
Ford is currently planning to release five new electric vehicles in Europe by 2013, with the Focus Electric due in 2012. The model is expected to have a range of 100 miles and feature an on-board charger that provides twice the power of its rivals, meaning it can charge in under 4 hours.

“Your service all round from initial contact to completion of repair was excellent”
John Evans (Stafford)
“In March 2010 I unfortunately had an accident in my VW Golf. When I contacted my insurance company they advised me the closest repairer was Hodson, s in Penkridge. After I gave the go ahead for Hodson,s to undertake the repair the entire process of recovery was effortless.
Hodson,s collected my vehicle from my home address and provided me with a courtesy vehicle immediately. The communication and effort from the Hodson,s team was outstanding and the exchange of vehicles could not have been anymore efficient.
The damage sustained to my vehicle was fairly large (over 70 new parts required). However Hodsons managed to repair my vehicle to an extremely high standard within a remarkably short period of time.
The repair work, service and after-service that I received from everyone at Hodsons was truly outstanding. I would happily recommend Hodsons repair centre to others in the future”
